Vikings Pick Up Victory Over Detroit Mercy On Senior Day

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team played its final regular season game in the Wolstein Center Sunday, as the Vikings picked up a 68-63 victory over Detroit Mercy on Senior Day. With the win, the Vikings are now 19-8 overall this season and 9-7 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
· Three Vikings finished in double-figures, led by Savanna Crockett who posted 23 points, while Mariah Miller added 14 and Mariah White chipped in 13 points.
· Savanna Crockett grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds, while Mariah Miller recorded 12 boards on the game.
· As a team, the Vikings held a 51-40 rebounding advantage, including 18 offensive boards.
· Cleveland State recorded 17 steals on the game, including five from Jade Ely and four from Mariah White.
· As a team, the Vikings went 26-for-36 from the free throw line, marking season-highs in both categories.

Game Notes
· For the second straight game two Vikings finished with a double-double, as Savanna Crockett finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds, and Mariah Miller finished with 14 points and 12 boards.
· Savanna Crockett notched her second straight 20-point game, finishing with 23 points against Detroit Mercy, with 15 of her 21 points coming at the free throw line.
· After posting two blocked shots against Detroit Mercy, Savanna Crockett is now tied for ninth in the CSU Career Record Book with 72 career blocks.
· With her 12 rebounds on the game, Mariah Miller moved into 16th place on the CSU Career Rebounding Chart, finishing the game with 633 total boards.

The Game
After taking an eight-point lead into the halftime break at 35-27, the Vikings were able to use a 7-2 run over the opening minutes of the third quarter to gain a double-digit lead at 42-29 with 6:49 left on the clock.

The two teams then traded baskets throughout the rest of the frame, as the Vikings were able to take a 55-40 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.

Over the first half of the fourth quarter, Detroit Mercy was able to trim the lead down to single digits at the 60-51 mark, and then closed the gap to just seven points at the 4:13 mark with the score standing at 60-53 CSU.

A pair of Mariah Miller free throws at the 3:16 mark put the Vikings back up by nine points at 62-53, but a 4-0 run from the Titans put the score at 62-57 with just under three minutes left to play.

The Vikings then went four-for-four from the free throw line as Jade Ely and Savanna Crockett both converted a pair, giving the Vikings a nine-point lead once again at 66-57 with 2:27 left on the clock.

Cleveland State was then able to regain a double-digit lead on its next trip down the floor, as an Ely layup at the 2:00 mark put the score at 68-57.

The Vikings were then able to hold off another Detroit Mercy scoring run, as the Titans converted a pair of three-pointers over the final minutes of the game, as Cleveland State came away with the 68-63 victory.

Sunday's win kept the Vikings in fifth place in the #HLWBB standings, and solidified a First Round home game in the Horizon League Tournament for Cleveland State.
