Kielsmeier Announces 2019-20 Non-League Schedule

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State women's basketball head coach Chris Kielsmeier announced the non-league schedule for the upcoming 2019-20 campaign Tuesday, featuring an 11-game slate spanning November and December.

"We have a non-league schedule that is really going to test us this year in terms of mental focus and preparation as we continue to grow and improve as a more consistent road team with eight of our 11 games taking place away from home," Kielsmeier said. "This season's non-league schedule will no doubt help us gain a better sense of toughness when playing on the road, and will hopefully prepare us for the challenging Horizon League slate later in the year."

Playing eight of their first 11 games away from the friendly confines of the Wolstein Center, the Vikings will travel over 5,200 miles throughout the first two months of the season. Cleveland State's eight road games during the non-league slate marks the highest total for the Vikings since the 2000-01 campaign.

Cleveland State will open up the second season of the Kielsmeier era at Bowling Green on Wednesday, November 6, before hosting Davis & Elkins one week later on Wednesday, November 13 in the official home opener in the Wolstein Center.

The Vikings will then hit the road for a three-game stretch, traveling to Long Island (November 16), Hofstra (November 18) and St. Bonaventure (November 23), before returning home to close out the month by hosting Akron on Wednesday, November 27.

Cleveland State will once again be on the road to begin the month of December, traveling to Delaware State on Monday, December 2 to kickoff a four-game roadswing. The Vikings will then travel to Western Carolina (December 6), East Tennessee State (December 8) and Omaha (December 15) during this stretch, returning home on Friday, December 20 to host Lake Erie to close out the non-league slate.

Throughout the 11-game non-league schedule, the Vikings will be facing five first-time opponents (Davis & Elkins, Hofstra, Delaware State, East Tennessee State, Omaha), while they will also be facing Long Island and Western Carolina for just the second time in program history.

Prior to the official start of the 2019-20 season, Cleveland State will host its lone exhibition of the year on Thursday, October 31, hosting Ursuline College.

During the 2019-20 season Cleveland State will once again be offering FREE ADMISSION to all women's basketball stand alone games. For more information on fan experiences, call the Cleveland State Ticket Office at 216-687-4848.
