CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team will kick off the 2018-19 season Thursday evening (November 1), hosting Ursuline College in their lone exhibition contest. Action will begin at 7:00 p.m. from the Wolstein Center on the Cleveland State campus.

During the 2018-19 season, the Vikings will be under the direction of first year head coach Chris Kielsmeier, who comes to Cleveland State with nearly 20 years of collegiate coaching experience. During his tenure, Kielsmeier has posted a 416-116 career record, which includes a Division III national championship with Howard Payne University.

2018-19 CLEVELAND STATE ROSTER | 2018-19 CLEVELAND STATE SCHEDULE

Cleveland State returns six letterwinners from last season's squad, including the senior duo of Rachel Slaney and Mariana Bautista. This duo is joined by all-league honoree Jade Ely, Mariah Miller, Mariah White, and Anyia Pride to form the veteran core for the upcoming season.

This experienced group will be joined by five true freshmen – Shyla Latone, Savanna Crockett, Isabella Geraci, JaMiya Braxton, and Isabelle Gradwell – along with redshirt freshman Nadia Dumas and sophomore transfer Dana DeGraffenreid.

The Vikings enter the 2018-19 campaign looking to replace the majority of their offensive firepower after graduating 75-percent of their offense from a year ago. Ely enters her junior campaign as Cleveland State's highest scoring returner, averaging 7.6 points per game last year.

On the glass, Miller returns after averaging 4.6 boards per game last season, combining for 139 total rebounds as a sophomore.

Ely and Miller are the only two returners with experience in the starting lineup, as the Vikings will have to figure out a new-look starting five for the upcoming campaign.

Thursday's contest against Ursuline will be the lone exhibition for the Vikings, as they are set to officially begin the 2018-19 season against Salem University on Tuesday, November 6.
