Keck And Davie To Represent United States In Pan-American Championships

CLEVELAND - Senior Russ Davie and assistant coach Brian Keck have been selected to represent the United States at the 2004 Pan-American Championships on May 6 and 7 in Guatemala City, Guatemala, USA Wrestling has announced. Keck will be making his second appearance in the games, having won a gold medal at last year's championships, while Davie will be making his first trip.

"This is an outstanding opportunity for both wrestlers to go out and represent the United States and Cleveland State University," head coach Jack Effner said. "This is one of the premier events, and the competition is usually strongest in an Olympic year, so to be chosen is a great opportunity."

Davie will compete in the 120 kg (264.5 pound) bracket at the Pan-American Championships in Greco-Roman wrestling, while Keck will compete in freestyle in the same weight class. One wrestler in each weight class was selected to the U.S. Pan-American Championships team.

Both wrestlers have also qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which will be held in Indianapolis, Ind., on May 21-23. Keck finished eighth in the U.S. Senior Nationals, the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Team Trials, at 120 kg. in the freestyle bracket, while Davie was fourth in 120 kg. in Greco.
