Cleveland State Wrestling Finalizes Recruiting Class

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Head coach Josh Moore of the Cleveland State University wrestling team announced the addition of seven more student-athletes for the upcoming season. In total, the Vikings will have 14 new additions on the roster for the 2022-23 season with nine freshman and two graduate transfers.

Caleb Rea | Weirton, W.Va. | Weir High School | West Virginia University | 141-Pounds
Rea comes to Cleveland State after graduating from West Virginia University, where he was a four-year wrestler at 141-pounds. In his time, he put up a 45-53 overall record and twice placed at the Big 12 Championships. As a freshman, he was named to the All-Big 12 Rookie Team after finishing sixth at the championship and narrowly missing an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. Off the mat, he was a three-year member of the Academic All-Big 12 team and earned Scholar All-American honors as a junior. Rea was a four-time West Virginia State placer, finishing third twice before winning his first state title as a junior and was the runner-up in his senior year.

Anthony Perrine | Sagamore Hills, Ohio | Nordonia High School | Gardner-Webb University | 197-Pounds
Perrine comes to Cleveland State after graduating from Gardner-Webb University, where he was a five-year wrestler at 197-pounds and 285-pounds. Perrine was a two-time SOCON placer, doing so at 197 and 285 pounds. In his time, he amassed an overall record of 50-36. Perrine was a two-time Ohio state placer at Nordonia High School, winning the State Championship as a senior at 195-pounds.

Ronald Dimmerling | Canton, Ohio | Glenoak High School | 165-Pounds
Dimmerling comes to Cleveland State from Glenoak High School, where he carried a 3.70 GPA. In his senior season, Dimmerling placed third at 165-pounds. Dimmerling was a two-time Ohio State placer.

Jack Sparent | Chesterland, Ohio | West Geauga High School | 141-Pounds
Sparent comes to Cleveland State from West Geauga High School, where he was a two-time Ohio State placer. In his four-year career, he amassed 116 career wins.

Carson Smith | Marion, Ohio | Marion Pleasant High School | 174-Pounds
Smith comes to Cleveland State from Marion Pleasant High School, where he held a 3.70 GPA. Smith was a four-time Ohio State qualifier, twice placing at the championships. In his senior year, he finished as the runner-up in the 175-pound weight class.

Tyler Williams | Canton, Ohio | Canton South High School | 197-Pounds
Williams comes to Cleveland State from Canton South High School, where he was a two-time Ohio State placer.

Nick Abounader | Cleveland, Ohio | Benedictine High School | 157/165-Pounds
Abounader arrives at Cleveland State from Benedictine High School, where placed fourth at the Ohio state Championship as a senior at 150-pounds. He qualified after finishing as the runner-up at the District Championship.
