2017-18 – JUNIOR SEASON

Earned automatic qualification to NCAA Championships at 141 pounds … Won the Eastern Wrestling League title and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the EWL Championships … Became just the third Viking ever to win that honor and the first in 35 years … Was seeded third entering EWL Championships … Won his first bout at EWL’s via third-period pin over an opponent who went on to earn automatic NCAA qualification … Was victorious in his EWL semifinal match over the second seed in sudden victory … Pinned Clarion’s Brock Zacherl in the EWL championship bout, marking only the second time in Zacherl’s collegiate career that his opponent claimed a bonus-point win … Zacherl was 27-0 on the season and ranked among the top five nationally entering the title match … Cheek won 24 matches on the season, 21 of which came at 141 and three at 133 … Claimed 16 bonus-point wins—a team-leading eight pins along with five technical falls and three major decisions … Dropped his first-ever bout at NCAA’s to defending national champion Dean Heil of Oklahoma State by a 4-2 decision … Was the only unseeded athlete in his weight class to place at the Southern Scuffle … Won two matches via major decision and another by technical fall to place seventh at Scuffle … Defeated three Big Ten foes en route to title at Purple Raider Open Jan. 14 … Named EWL Wrestler of the Week Feb. 5 after posting a pair of road dual wins, including one over a top-25 foe … Placed second at Warriors Winter Open after dropping final via medical forfeit … Went 5-1 during EWL dual matches for the second straight year, winning three by bonus points.

2016-17 – SOPHOMORE SEASON
Went 3-1 at the Eastern Wrestling League Championships to finish in third place at 141 pounds … Posted two bonus-point wins at EWL’s and won all three bouts by at least six points … Led the team in wins (27), dual wins (9), dual points earned (39), EWL wins (5) and technical falls (8) … Posted five pins and four major decisions to lead team with 17 bonus-point wins … Did not suffer a defeat by fall or technical fall all season … Won the Storm Open with a 4-0 mark at the event … Took second in Ohio Intercollegiate Open and Mat-Town Open II … Placed third at Cleveland State Open … Competed in an NWCA All-Star Classic exhibition match to open the season … Won two matches at Southern Scuffle via technical fall … Went 27-10 while competing exclusively at 141 pounds, including 5-1 in EWL action.

2015-16 – FRESHMAN SEASON
Finished in third place at Eastern Wrestling League Championships at 133 weight class as he went 3-1 at the event … Went 15-11 on the season while competing at both 125 and 133 … Went 5-1 at Purple Raider Open and finished in third place … Won first four matches he wrestled at Clarion Open.

Posted a pair of top-four finishes at Ohio state tournament … Won 214 career matches, fourth-most in Ohio state history, according to OHSAA … Won 59 matches as a junior and 58 as a senior … Posted 124 falls in his career, among top 10 in Ohio state history … Was a two-time All-American at the Junior National Championships in Fargo, N.D.
