Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Sweeps #HLTennis Weekly Awards For Second Straight Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second straight week the Cleveland State men's tennis team has swept the Horizon League weekly awards, as Mikael Erler was named the Singles Player of the Week and Erler and Maxime Mareschal-Hay picked up Doubles Team of the Week honors. 

Last time out, Cleveland State posted a perfect 3-0 record at the DePaul Invite, picking up wins against the host Blue Demons (4-2), Eastern Kentucky (4-2) and Army (4-1). The Vikings extended their current win streak to seven straight matches, and improved to 11-4 overall this season. 

In singles, Erler paced the Vikings with a 2-0 record at No. 2 singles, picking up wins against Eastern Kentucky and Army while playing an unfinished match against DePaul. Erler opened the weekend with a 7-6(3), 7-5 victory against EKU, before posting a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 win against Army. 

With his two wins last weekend, Erler extended his personal win streak to 10 straight matches, which includes five wins this spring after missing the first part of dual match play due to injury. Erler now stands at 13-4 overall this year while owning a perfect 5-0 record this spring. 

On the doubles court, Erler and Mareschal-Hay went 2-0 at the No. 3 spot, helping the Vikings pick up the doubles point in both matches that they played in. The duo earned a 7-5 victory against DePaul and then posted a 6-3 win against Army to improve to 3-1 this spring. 

Cleveland State has now won the doubles point in seven of its last eight matches.
