Santilli & Mostardi Set To Return For 2020-21 Campaign

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Following last week's announcement of the Cleveland State Athletics Victory Lap Program, men's tennis head coach Brian Etzkin has announced that the senior duo of Nico Mostardi and Jack Santilli will be returning for the 2020-21 campaign to finish their Cleveland State careers.

"I'm thrilled that both Jack and Nico get to return to the team next year, we were in the midst of a special season when it was abruptly stopped due to the virus," Etzkin said. "These two 'super-seniors' will be able to provide a ton of leadership, experience and talent to the squad. I know they are thankful to return to the team, continue their academic pursuits and finish what we started on the court last year."

As part of the Victory Lap Program Mostardi and Santilli will be able to compete during the 2020-21 season through a waiver approved in March by the NCAA Division I Council

During the shortened 2019-20 season Mostardi and Santilli helped the Vikings to a 6-6 record while playing one of the team's toughest schedules to date. The duo combined for 19 singles wins, while Mostardi spent the entire spring campaign ranked in the top-100 in the Oracle ITA National Singles Rankings.

During their sophomore and junior seasons Mostardi and Santilli helped the Vikings to a pair of Horizon League Tournament titles and NCAA appearances, while the duo was poised to lead the team to a third straight #HLMTEN championship this year.

Over the last four seasons, Mostardi and Santilli have been an integral part of a Cleveland State team that has posted 50+ wins, while also helping the Vikings earn the program's highest regional ranking last year.

Mostardi, who is on track to graduate with a degree in marketing this August, will be pursuing a graduate degree during the 2020-21 academic year, while Santilli will be finishing up his undergraduate degree in finance.
