The Vikings split their matches against Western Michigan and Purdue, dropping a 5-2 match against the Broncos before picking up a 4-2 win at Big Ten opponent Purdue. The win over the Boilermakers marked the first victory over a Power Five team for the Vikings since the 2009-10 campaign.
Phillips Named #HLMTEN Singles Player of the Week
Earlier this week junior Luke Phillips was named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week, picking up the weekly honor after going 2-0 on the week. Phillips picked up a 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles against Western Michigan, and then notched a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot against Purdue. For the season, Phillips owns a 16-9 record, including a 7-4 mark this spring.
…Terry & Mindry Earn #HLMTEN Doubles Team of the Week
Junior Matthew Terry and freshman Kade Mindry made it a clean sweep for the Vikings, as they picked up Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week honors for the fourth time this season. The duo went 1-0 at No. 2 doubles, picking up a 6-4 win at Purdue to help the Vikings clinch the crucial doubles point against the Boilermakers. For the season, Terry and Mindry now own a team-best 7-2 record this spring.
Mostardi In The Oracle ITA National Singles Rankings
Updated Oracle ITA National Singles Rankings were released earlier this week, with senior Nico Mostardi holding his place in the top-100 for the eighth straight week. Mostardi enters the week sitting at No. 93, owning a 14-9 overall record this season, while he ranks fourth on the CSU Singles Wins List with 84 career victories. Mostardi needs just three more wins to move into third place, and six more wins to become the third Viking all-time with 90 career wins.
Terry On CSU Singles Wins List
Entering the weekend, junior Matthew Terry ranks eighth on the CSU Singles Wins List with 76 career victories – one of eight Vikings all-time with 75+ career wins. Terry owns a team-best 23-5 singles record this year, including a 7-3 mark at No. 2 singles this spring. Terry currently needs four more wins to move into seventh place on the list.
Head Coach Brian Etzkin
Brian Etzkin is in his 18th year at the helm of the Vikings, owning a 257-183 dual match record. Last year, Etzkin guided the Vikings to their seventh Horizon League Tournament title and seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament, while helping the team earn the highest regional ranking in program history.
