Vikings Travel To Xavier & Louisville To Begin Roadswing

CLEVELAND, Ohio –The Cleveland State men's tennis team will begin a four-match roadswing this weekend, traveling to Xavier on Saturday, February 8 and Louisville on Sunday, February 9.

Last Time Out...
Cleveland State posted a 2-1 record in a trio of matches, dropping a hard fought 4-3 decision at Penn State, and picking up a 4-3 win over Butler and a 6-1 win over St. Francis in the MMTP. The two wins over Butler and SFU improved CSU to 3-0 at home this season, and 12-2 at the MMTP over the last two seasons.

Cleveland State Set For Tough Competition
Sunday's match at Louisville will mark the third of three opponents for the Vikings who finished last year ranked in the top-75, as the Cardinals finished 2019 ranked 61stnationally. This season, Louisville has been receiving votes in the Oracle ITA Top-25 poll, after picking up a 4-3 victory over 10th-ranked Virginia back in January.

Mostardi Named #HLMTEN Singles Player Of The Week…Again
For the second time this year, senior Nico Mostardi was named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week, earning the honor on Monday after posting a perfect 3-0 week at the top of the lineup. Mostardi picked up a trio of straight-set wins against Penn State, Butler and St. Francis, improving to 4-1 this spring. 

…Terry & Mindry Named #HLMTEN Doubles Team Of The Week…Again
Junior Matthew Terry and freshman Kade Mindry made it a clean sweep for the Vikings once again, as the duo was named the Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week for the second time this season. Terry and Mindry went 3-0 at No. 2 doubles last week, helping CSU pick up the doubles point in all three matches. The duo now owns a perfect 4-0 record this spring. 

Mindry Picks Up First Collegiate Singles Win
Freshman Kade Mindry picked up his first collegiate singles win last time out, as he earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over St. Francis. Mindry, who joined the Vikings in January, has been playing at No. 4 and No. 5 singles for the Vikings and helped CSU capture a 6-1 victory over SFU last weekend.

Mostardi & Terry On CSU Singles Wins List
Nico Mostardi and Matthew Terry both moved up the CSU Singles Wins List following their performances last week, as Mostardi moved into a tie for sixth place with 80 career wins and Terry moved into ninth place with 72 victories. After going 3-0 at No. 1 singles last week, Mostardi became the seventh Viking all-time to reach 80 career wins, while Terry is the 10thViking all-time to post 70+ victories.

Head Coach Brian Etzkin
Brian Etzkin is in his 18thyear at the helm of the Vikings, owning a 255-179 dual match record. Last year, Etzkin guided the Vikings to their seventh Horizon League Tournament title and seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament, while helping the team earn the highest regional ranking in program history.
