Slade & Teichmann Advance In ITA Regional Qualifying Draw

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened play at the ITA Midwest Regional Thursday, with three Vikings competing in the Qualifying Singles Draw.

Benjamin Slade and Raul Teichmann were both victorious in their first and second round matches, while Clark Bilinovich bowed out in the opening round.

Slade, who is now in sole possession of eighth place on the CSU Singles Wins List with 64 career wins, picked up a first round victory over Valparaiso's Franklin Brozovich (6-0, 6-0) and a second round victory over UIC's Johan Hedstrom (6-7(4), 6-2, 6-2).

Teichmann picked up back-to-back straight-set victories in his two matches Thursday, earning a 6-3, 6-3 win over Youngstown State's Erik Gran in the first round, and a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Marquette's Brandon Shanklin in the second round.

Slade and Teichmann will have one more round of qualifying action tomorrow (Friday, October 19), with eight players advancing to the Main Singles Draw which begins on Saturday (October 20).

In addition to the final round of the Qualifying Singles Draw, play in the Main Doubles Draw will also begin tomorrow, with three rounds slated for completion.
