Vikings Remain on Road for More Dual Action

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams will contest duals on back to back days for the third time this season this weekend.

CSU will travel to Michigan State Friday, Jan. 24, before remaining in the state to face Horizon League foe Oakland Saturday, Jan. 25. Friday's dual will start at 5:00 p.m. while Saturday's meet will start at 1:00 p.m.

Cleveland State had this past weekend off from competition after having traveled to Chicago the weekend prior.

The CSU men split dual meets with UIC Jan. 10-11, with their win coming down to the final event as the Vikings' victory in 400 free relay propelled CSU to the win. Sophomore Jack Krusinski won four individual races over the two dual meets with the Flames, while also swimming on a winning relay, and was subsequently named the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week.

The CSU women dropped a pair of dual matchups to UIC and IUPUI while competing in Chicago two weeks ago. Junior Alana Cartwright won a trio of individual races while racing against the two league foes while classmate Shaw Barney and sophomore Agnes Bahr also won races during the meets.

The Vikings have not competed at Michigan State since the 2011-12 season opener. However, that was a special long-course meet took place at the Spartans' outdoor pool.

Michigan State owns a 4-5 record on the men's side and a 5-5-1 mark on the women's side. The Spartans took down Oakland in both genders at home last weekend, and both squads also have wins over fellow league member UIC on their slate. Both Spartan squads also finished second at the House of Champions Classic. Friday's dual will be the final home meet of the season for MSU.

Both CSU squads will be looking to avenge home dual losses to the Golden Grizzlies from last season. Cleveland State last traveled to Oakland for dual action two years ago.

Oakland has a 4-2 record on the men's side and a 6-3 mark on the women's side. The Golden Grizzlies, the defending Horizon League champions, will be hosting IUPUI Friday evening while the Vikings compete at Michigan State. Both Oakland teams are a perfect 3-0 in HL duals entering the weekend, with wins over Milwaukee, UIC and Green Bay. Saturday's matchup will be the final dual of the season for Oakland.

This weekend will provide the final road meets of the regular season for CSU as the Vikings will host Kenyon next weekend in their regular-season finale.
