Vikings, Musketeers Set for Dual Clash

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams continue their 2018-19 seasons this weekend as both programs welcome BIG EAST foe Xavier.

The meet will take place Saturday, Oct. 27, and begin at 2:00 p.m. A schedule of events is located at the bottom of this article. Live results will be available through the Meet Mobile app.

The matchup against Xavier will be the first dual of the season for the Viking men. CSU was last in action two weeks ago at the Akron Zips Classic, where it took third place of five teams competing. Sophomore Dominik Niedzialek won the 200 backstroke and took runner-up honors in the 100 and was subsequently named the League's Swimmer of the Week. He owns the top times in the HL in both events early on this season. Freshman Jack Krusinski posted top-three efforts in both breaststroke events at Akron and owns the top time in the HL this season in both events.

The Cleveland State women will look to build off a successful season-opening dual last weekend when they won 13 of 16 events to cruise past Youngstown State. Freshman Riley Drummond won all three of her individual events—the 100 and 200 back and 200 IM—and also swam on the winning 200 medley relay squad. Senior Claudia Zido won the 100 and 200 freestyle at the meet and also swam for two winning relay teams.

Saturday's matchup will be the 17th meeting in dual format between the Vikings and Musketeers in the last 16 seasons. The Cleveland State men had a 15-dual winning streak against Xavier snapped on the road last season, falling to the Musketeers 162-98. The Cleveland State women are 6-4 against Xavier over the past 10 meetings. Although the Viking women fell at Xavier last season, 161-97, CSU is 4-1 in its past five matchups at home against the Musketeers.

The Xavier men own a 2-4 dual mark with wins over Eastern Illinois and Evansville. The Musketeer women are 5-2 on the season and will host Indiana State Friday evening before coming to Cleveland. The Xavier women have knocked off Butler, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, Saint Louis and Seton Hall on the season.

Both CSU programs continue dual action next weekend by visiting Miami (Ohio) Saturday, Nov. 3.
