Niedzialek Named League’s Swimmer of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Dominik Niedzialek of the Cleveland State University men's swimming & diving team was named the Nike Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week as announced by the League office Tuesday afternoon.

It is the first-career honor for the sophomore.

Niedzialek won the 200 backstroke at the Akron Zips Classic, topping the field of 23 swimmers in 1:48.21. He also claimed runner-up honors in the 100 back (50.32) and led off CSU's 400 medley relay squad that took second place (3:19.84). He split 49.23 seconds on the lead leg of the medley relay, providing the fastest opening leg of any of the 19 teams in the relay. Niedzialek also added a top-eight finish in the 500 freestyle in 4:39.88.

Over the course of the two-day meet, he posted the fastest time in the Horizon League early on this season in the 500 freestyle and both backstroke events. He is more than one second faster than the second-fastest time in each of those three events.

Cleveland State had a League-high four men's swimmer of the week honors last season. Niedzialek is the third active Viking to have won this honor while two active Vikings have earned weekly diving honors.

Cleveland State will be back in action on the final weekend of October when it welcomes Xavier in its first dual meet of the season.
