Cleveland State Men's Soccer Shutout by Xavier, 1-0

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Cleveland State (1-2-1) was shutout by Xavier (2-1-1) 1-0 on Monday evening.

The opening half went scoreless, with Xavier outshooting the Vikings 10-2, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Musketeers best scoring chance came in the 21st minute when Makel Rasheed hit the crossbar.

Albert Portas had both shots on goal for the Green and White, while Stephen Yerian came up with six huge saves.

Xavier nearly got on the board as Jerome Jolly hit the post in the 58th minute. Six minutes later, XU would go a man down as Lotem Ben Dov was shown a red card.

The Musketeers netted the lone goal in the 73rd minute when Jolly volleyed in a shot by Taylor Rhinehart that was initially saved.

The Green and White outshot the home team 7-5 in the second half but were outnumbered in the game, 15-9.

A. Portas led the Vikings with four shots including two on frame. In his first collegiate start, Yerian finished with seven saves.

The Vikings return home to open Horizon League play on Saturday, September 9 against Oakland at 7 p.m.
