Cleveland State Adds Local Product Groves

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State University head men's soccer coach Sinisa Ubiparipovic announced Tuesday that Quinn Groves has formally committed to join the program for the 2021-22 academic year.

Groves, a native of Hudson, Ohio, can play on the back line or in the midfield. He competed for Hudson High School this past fall and has been a member of Internationals, as part of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, since 2016.

After his lone season playing for the Explorers, Groves was tabbed All-Ohio Second Team after helping his side to a district championship. He earned All-Greater Akron First Team and All-Suburban League First Team accolades after a 19-match season in which he posted 18 goals and 15 assists.

Groves previously competed for Everest Soccer Club as a youth before transitioning to Internationals. He has been a consistent starter for the academy team, starting 13 of 14 matches before the 2019-20 campaign was interrupted, while lining up as a left back.

Groves has also achieved at a high level in his academic career to date, being named a member of the Distinguished Honor Roll throughout his time at Hudson.

Ubiparipovic completed his first season as head coach at CSU in 2019 and led the Vikings to notable results against nationally ranked Louisville, Ohio State and Akron. Cleveland State recently announced it will play a full round-robin schedule against Horizon League opponents during the ongoing spring semester. CSU's season opener is set for Thursday, Feb. 4 against Green Bay.
