M’Barek Recognized in HL Student-Athlete Spotlight

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior defender Thomas M'Barek of the Cleveland State University men's soccer team was honored by the Horizon League Monday afternoon, as he was featured in the league's Nike Student-Athlete Spotlight.

M'Barek is a two-time All-Horizon League selection on defense for the Vikings, including earning First Team accolades in 2019. He was also tabbed All-Ohio First Team last season as he started all but one match in central defense, helping anchor the unit that allowed the fewest goals in the Horizon League.

M'Barek has served as a team captain for the program since his sophomore season and has started 44 matches in his CSU career to date.

M'Barek has excelled with his academic pursuits as well. He is a two-time honoree on the league's All-Academic Team and owns a 3.97 cumulative GPA as an international business major. He was also named Academic All-Ohio First Team in 2019, making him one of just four men's players to earn All-Ohio and Academic All-Ohio accolades a year ago.

During the 2020 fall season, the Horizon League is honoring one male and one female student-athlete each week as part of the Nike Horizon League Student-Athlete Spotlight.
