Vikings Announce Addition of Jake Weissman

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State University head men's soccer coach Sinisa Ubiparipovic announced the signing of Jake Weissman to a National Letter of Intent Monday morning.

Weissman is a central midfielder that hails from Mayfield, Ohio. He has competed for Mayfield High School and Cleveland Force SC (formerly CSA Impact United) and has largely occupied the box-to-box midfielder role in his career while also spending some time on the flank.



"Jake is very passionate about the game of soccer and a true student of the game as well," Ubiparipovic said. "His vision and passing ability will be a great addition to our midfield."

Weissman was tabbed the Western Reserve Conference Player of the Year in 2018 after leading the league in goals (10) and assists (13). He also helped the Wildcats to their second consecutive league title during his junior season and the top seed in the district tournament. He led Mayfield in goals again as a senior (11) and earned All-Greater Cleveland First Team honors for a second straight campaign. He finished his time as a Wildcat with 24 goals and 28 assists in  his career.

A member of the Cleveland Force SC club for the past six years, Weissman has captained his side in each of the past two years. He helped the Force win the Midwest Developmental League in both 2017 and 2019 and capture the Great Lakes League title in 2018. He also helped the Force to the Elite National Premier League Finals in 2018 and 2019, where the club placed third and fifth, respectively.

Weissman has also achieved at a high level in his academic career to date, being named to the Principal's List at Mayfield in his junior and senior years.

Ubiparipovic completed his first season as head coach at CSU this past fall and led the Vikings to notable results against nationally ranked Louisville, Ohio State and Akron. The Vikings led the Horizon League in fewest goals allowed, yielding only 17 in 15 matches.
