Cleveland State Lacrosse Drops Front End of Home-and-Home With St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Cleveland State opened its home-and-home with St. Bonaventure with a 12-5 loss on Friday afternoon. With the setback, the Vikings drop to 1-4 overall and the Bonnies move to 4-2. The second game will be on Sunday in Cleveland.

The game went scoreless through the opening 11 minutes until St. Bonaventure broke through with 3:56 showing on the clock. The Bonnies added to their lead 46 seconds later and led 2-0 at the end of the quarter.

Cleveland State got on the board for the first time at the 11:25 mark as Ryan Haigh scored off a pass from Derek Radke. One minute later, St. Bonaventure got the goal back to lead, 3-1.

A man-up goal by Gavin Held off a pass from Gannon Matthews brought the Green and White to within one with 9:14 to play in the first half. Adam Clark then tied the game at 3-3, scoring off a pass from Jason Sullivan with 8:23 remaining in the quarter.

The Bonnies answered back with the final four goals of the half to lead 7-3 at the intermission.

St. Bonaventure opened the third quarter scoring at the 11:42 mark, extending the margin to 8-3. Radke capitalized on a turnover in front of the goal, bringing the Vikings to within 8-4 with 8:09 left in the quarter. However, SBU closed the quarter with two unanswered goals to lead 10-4.

The Bonnies outscored the Vikings 2-1 in the fourth quarter to come away with the first game of the back-to-back, 12-5.

Inside the Box Score
R. Haigh accounted for two of the five Viking goals in the game, raising his season total to nine on the year. Sullivan finished with a team-best two assists, upping his team-best total to ten.

Nick Polydoras scooped up a game-best five ground balls. Robbie Brazanskas and Grayson Dague each had a game-best two caused turnovers. Cameron Logan finished with 12 saves in goal.
