RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - Cleveland State shaved one shot off its first round total and shot a second round 302 and is in 13th place after two rounds of the NCAA Men's Golf San Diego Regional. The 54-hole event is being played at the par-72, 6,903-yard The Farms G.C.

"I thought we did some good things out there today, but were unable to limit some mistakes and had some big numbers that added up," head coach Steve Weir said. "We are going to go out tomorrow and try to straighten some things out and have some fun. We've seen the course three times now and hopefully we can come out in the final round and do the things we are capable of doing and have done all season."

Sophomore Michael Klaric shot his second consecutive round of even-par 72 and is tied for 15th place in the individual standings. He made three birdies and two bogeys on the front nine for a one-under par 35 with a birdie and double bogey on the back nine for a one-over 37.

"Michael has been very steady through the first two rounds," Weir said. "He has been able to limit the mental mistakes and make some good birdie putts."

Senior Kent Monas got off to a hot start today, making three straight birdies on the 11th, 12th and 13th holes as CSU started its round on the 10th hole. Monas carded a one-over-par 73 and is tied for 36th place (75-73 - 148).

UCLA's Patrick Conley leads the field at eight-under-par 136 (69-67). The Bruin entered the event ranked No. 9 in Division I.

No. 15 USC leads the field with 18 holes remaining at eight-under-par 568 (278-290), holding a four shot lead in front of No. 2 UCLA (287-285) and Ohio State (300-279) who are in second and third place.

The top five teams and the low individual not on one of those five teams advance to the NCAA Nationals from May 31-June 5 at the Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, OK.

The final round pf the San Diego Regional will be played on Saturday morning with the first of CSU's five players teeing off at 9:10 a.m. PST (12:10 p.m. in Cleveland) off of the 10th tee.
