Knight and Robbins earn #HLGolf All-Academic honors

INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State golfers Lexi Knight and Zach Robbins were honored with the top conference academic award, as Knight was named to the Horizon League's Women's All-Academic team while Robbins earned an All-Academic team honorable mention on the men's side as the conference released its 2022 Golf All-Academic award-winners on Monday.

It is the first time since 2020 that CSU has had a female student-athlete selected for the honor. Lexi joins her sister, Ashley Knight, as the last two Vikings to earn the top academic award.

"Lexi works incredibly hard to be successful in the classroom and on the golf course," head women's golf coach Ryan Williams said. "She maintains an almost perfect GPA while also balancing an immensely busy schedule as a student-athlete. This honor is so deserving and I am very proud of her. She earns this every single day."

Knight, a junior from Sylvania, Ohio, has been a member of CSU's Dean's List every semester of college along with being a multiple-time honoree of the Horizon Honor Roll with a 3.93 cumulative GPA. She is also a member of Cleveland State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and finished in a tie for 13th overall at the 2022 Horizon League Championships.

On the men's side, Robbins is the first Viking to make the All-Academic team since Anton Krecic took home the prize in 2019.

"I am happy that Zach was recognized for not just his talents on the golf course but for his excellence in the classroom," director of golf and head men's golf Steve Weir said. "Zach is a great example of what we want all of our student-athletes to be."

It was the second big award that Robbins claimed after the season, as he was also a Horizon League Second Team selection. The graduating senior from Grand Rapids, Mich. has recorded a 3.68 cumulative GPA and has been a multi-time honoree on both CSU's Dean's List and the Horizon's Honor Roll.

Robbins is also a member of Cleveland State's SAAC and tied for ninth overall at the Horizon Championships. He also tied for sixth at NKU's The Jewell and had top CSU finishes across multiple Spring competitions.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests. An Honorable Mention is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of the votes, but did not make the All-Academic team.
