Vikings Picked to Finish Fifth in Horizon League

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The Cleveland State Vikings have been selected to finish fifth in the Horizon League Men's Golf Preseason Poll, as selected by the conference head coaches and announced by the league office on Wednesday (Feb. 19).

The Vikings finished fifth in the preseason poll with 36 points, behind Youngstown State (37 points), Northern Kentucky (39 points), Oakland (55 points) and Wright State (64 points). The Raiders were the only team to receive any first-place votes.

Cleveland State will be led by juniors Jules Blakely, Zach Robbins and Zak Supelak.

Robbins returns after having a strong outing this past fall, notching a team-leading 72.2 average, with four finishes inside the top 10. A 2019 Second Team All-Horizon League selection, the Grand Rapids, Mich. native led the Vikings last season with a 74.6 average.

Sophomore Jack Hanus finished this past fall with three top 20 finishes, including one finish inside the top five, and an average of 73.9, good for second-best on the team.

Freshmen Gunnar McCollins and Jonny Filler will be competing in their first season for the Vikings.

Cleveland State will begin its season next week at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate: Monday Feb. 24 and Tuesday, Feb. 25.

The 2020 Horizon League men's golf championship will take place on April 26-28 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
