SETTING THE SCENE
The Cleveland State men's basketball team enters this weekend's set of games aiming to maintain their lead atop the Horizon League standings. Following a perfect 9-0 start in #HLMBB play, the Vikings have split each of their last two weekend series against Wright State and Milwaukee. Torrey Patton is coming off his team-leading second double-double of the season and has recorded 10 or more points in 11 of his last 12 outings. Chris Greene dropped a career-high tying 13 points off the bench on Saturday(Jan. 23), including a 3-4 clip from long range. 

A WIN ON FRIDAY WOULD…
Give the Vikings their first win over Green Bay since January 4, 2018 when they held on to take down the Phoenix 80-79 at the Wolstein Center. A win would also allow the Vikes to maintain their position atop the Horizon League standings as they currently hold a one-game advantage over second-place Wright State. 

THE CLEVELAND STATE/GREEN BAY
Cleveland State comes into this weekend's pair of #HLMBB contests against Green Bay having dropped five straight to the Phoenix. In their last meeting, Torrey Patton posted 19 points to go along with 14 boards in a 74-67 setback on February 27, 2020

SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
The Green Bay Phoenix head into the weekend coming off a convincing two-game #HLMBB sweep over Purdue Fort-Wayne at home. Green Bay defeated the Mastodons 77-59 on Jan. 22 before topping the visitors 87-72 on Jan. 23. Amari Davis paces the Phoenix in points (16.1), steals (1.6) and minutes (33.3) while Emmanuel Ansong leads the squad in rebounding (4.2) while shooting a team-high .522 from the field. Lucas Stieber is averaging 3.9 assists per contest. After battling the Vikings, Green Bay will open a four-game homestand next weekend with a pair of matchups against IUPU.

RISING IN THE HORIZON (AS A TEAM)
Through 12 #HLMBB contest this season, the Vikings are first in defensive field goal percentage (.389) and steals (8.83),  second in points allowed (66.1), defensive three-point field goal percentage (.282) and margin of victory (3.5), and third in turnover margin (1.83).

RISING IN THE HORIZON (INDIVIDUALLY)
Through 12 #HLMBB contests this season, Torrey Patton is ranked ninth in rebounds per game (7.8), 13th in field goal percentage (.470) and tied for 17th in scoring (14.1). Deante Johnson is ranked fifth in blocks (1.2) and tied for 14th in rebounds per game (6.0).

OVERALL HORIZON LEAGUE RANKINGS
Torrey Patton is ranked seventh in rebounds (7.8) and tied for seventh in double-doubles (2) while Deante Johnson is third in blocks (1.3) and 14th in rebounds (6.1) and D'Moi Hodge is third in steals per game (1.9).

UNDEFEATED IN #HLMBB PLAY
For the first time ever, Cleveland State began the Horizon League season winning its first nine games.

KEEPING IT ALIVE
The Vikings have jumped to fifth in the Horizon League in offensive rebounding (11.0) after snatching 11 or more offensive boards in five of their last six games. That stretch includes a season-high 17 rebounds in enemy territory in a 66-64 win over Wright State on Jan. 15. Deante Johnson leads Cleveland State with 2.0 offensive boards per game.

BRINGING THE ENERGY
Chris Greene paces all Vikings reserves in scoring (4.8) and enjoyed a career outing on Satuday (Jan. 23), posting a career-high 13 points on an efficient 5-of-6 from the field, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Greene also chipped in three rebounds and an assist in the productive performance and has scored 10 points or more three times this season.

TRE GOMILLION AKA MR. RELIABLE
Gomillion has started in every game of his Cleveland State career (47 starts). The junior has had a career season thus far, pouring in a career-high 23 points on a near-perfect 11-12 (.917) shooting from the floor on Dec. 27, 2020. His .917 shooting percentage puts the Augusta, Georgia, native in the record book, tying him with Jamal Jackson's .917 clip on 12/5/94 (also 11-12 from the field). Against Purdue Fort Wayne on Dec. 19, Gomillion contributed 16 points on a then-career-high 8-13 (.615) shooting from the floor. 

PATTON POURING IN THE POINTS
Senior Torrey Patton poured in 10-or-more points in a career-high nine-straight contests (Dec. 13-Jan. 16). Over those nine games, all wins for the Vikes, Patton averaged 15.2 points per game. His previous longest 10-plus streak was last season (six straight games). Over those nine games, Patton notched a season-high 19 points in a come-from-behind win over Youngstown State (Dec. 27). Overall, Patton has logged double-digit points in 11 of his last 12 games and grabbed 10 or more rebounds in three of his last five appearances.
