Vikings In Italy: Day 1 - Milan

MILAN PHOTO GALLERY

Today was our first day in Italy, and after a long day of travel we were able to ease our way into the trip with a nice afternoon in Milan.

After a 2 hour flight from Cleveland to Atlanta, we boarded our 9 hour flight from Atlanta to Milan at 6:30 pm Cleveland time Sunday evening (which meant 12:30 am Italy time). Most would think that flying through the night would be perfect because you can just sleep the entire ride, but let us tell you, there are only so many ways that you can rearrange your legs to get comfortable on a plane, especially when the average height of your travel party is 6'5" or taller. So needless to say, we didn't get much sleep on the plane!

But that didn't stop us from hitting the ground running after landing in Milan at 9:30 am local time (3:30 am Cleveland time for those of you keeping track)! Once we collected all of our bags we met our tour guides Jaclyn, Pedro and Mike, and we were off to Milan!

Once we got to Milan after a quick 45 minute bus ride, we first stopped at the Castello Sforzesco, where we took our first (of many) team pictures! After exploring the inside of the castle we walked a few blocks to the city center, where we were able to explore and eat lunch on our own.

After getting our first taste of Italian food (GELATO!!!!), we got back on the bus and headed to Treviso, our home for the night. Once in Treviso, there were two mindsets...those that just wanted to go to sleep and call it a night, and those that explored the city in search of dinner! No matter what group you were in, we definitely had a memorable first day in Italy.

Our wonderful tour guide Jaclyn left us with some great parting words on our first day..."Give yourself a beautiful smile every morning and it will be a beautiful day in Italy."

Here is to waking up in Italy with a smile the next eight days!
