Vikings to Face Top-Ranked Irish at Notre Dame

CLEVELAND, Ohio – After heading east last weekend, the Cleveland State University fencing team will head west this weekend for its third consecutive weekend of competition.

The Vikings will take part in Notre Dame's Michael DeCicco Duals Saturday, Jan. 25. Competition is set to get underway at 8:00 a.m. with CSU set to fence in every time slot.

CSU will open the day by facing Lawrence and then will fence Northwestern (9:00 a.m.), Florida (10:00 a.m.), Detroit Mercy (11:00 a.m.), Wayne State (Noon), the host Fighting Irish (1:00 p.m.) and Denison (2:00 p.m.) before having a second matchup with host Notre Dame (3:00 p.m.).

The Notre Dame women are the top-ranked team in the country while the ND men sit at No. 2 in the most recent poll. The Northwestern women also are ranked among the top 10 nationally.

The CSU men topped Lawrence at the Detroit Mercy Invitational while the women came up one point short. Both Viking squads also notched wins over the host Titans at that event and suffered losses to Wayne State. Cleveland State also claimed wins over Denison in its home dual meet.

The matchups against Northwestern, Florida and Notre Dame will be the first of the season.

Cleveland State competed at the Army Invitational and the Vassar Invitational last weekend. The CSU men posted a 6-5 mark across the two days while the women were 6-4.

The Vikings will close the regular season next weekend when they compete in dual action at Northwestern.
