Vikings Set for Busy Weekend

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University fencing team makes its longest road trip of the season this weekend for a pair of competitions.

It will be a busy weekend for the Vikings as they will compete at the Army Invitational Saturday, Jan. 18, before heading to the Vassar Invitational Sunday, Jan. 19.

At the Army event, CSU will face Drew (9:30 a.m.), Hunter (10:30 a.m.) and Navy (11:30 a.m.) to open the day. After a break for lunch, the Viking men will face Army at 1:00 p.m. while the women face the hosts and CCNY in the same time block. Cleveland State will end the day with consecutive matchups against the Royal Military College of Canada (2:00 p.m.), Detroit Mercy (3:00 p.m.) and Stevens (4:00 p.m.).

At the Vassar event, both genders will face off against the host Brewers twice while the CSU men will also face Drew twice. Competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Vikings facing each opponent once in the morning and once in the afternoon.

Both CSU squads claimed relatively comfortable victories over Detroit Mercy as the Titans hosted an invitational last weekend. Detroit is the only team the Vikings will face this weekend that they have already seen this season. CSU faced a number of this weekend's opponents last year at the same two events at Army and Vassar.

The CSU men went 4-1 last weekend at Detroit's event while the women posted a 3-3 mark. The women suffered a pair of one-point losses, including coming up just short against Ohio State.

This will be the second of four consecutive weekends of dual competition for CSU. The squads will compete in Notre Dame's DeCicco Duals next weekend.
