Vikings to Host Pair of Events This Weekend

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University fencing team continues the 2019-20 season this weekend as it hosts a pair of events.

The CSU Duals will take place Saturday, Oct. 26, inside Woodling Gymnasium.

Six schools—Carnegie Mellon, Case Western Reserve, Denison, Michigan, Michigan State and Oakland—will bring both men's and women's teams. Along with Cleveland State, all seven schools will contest a round robin throughout the day across 12 strips. The first two duals will begin at 9:30 a.m. while the final one will begin at 5:30 p.m.

CSU will face Denison (9:30 a.m.), Michigan (10:30 a.m.), Oakland (11:15 a.m.) and Carnegie Mellon (12:30 p.m.) before breaking for lunch and senior recognition. After taking its bye, CSU will close the day with matchups against Case Western Reserve (3:00 p.m.) and Michigan State (4:15 p.m.).

Cleveland State will host the 11th annual John Szent-Kiraly Open Sunday, Oct. 27. Competition will be held in mixed foil (8:30 a.m.), women's epee (10:00 a.m.), mixed saber (12:30 p.m.) and mixed epee (2:30 p.m.).

Cleveland State opened the season at the OSU Duals at the end of September. The CSU men posted a 5-1 dual mark, including having their foil unit best that of the host Buckeyes, while the Viking women contributed a 4-2 record. Both squads faced the CWRU and Michigan foes at the OSU Duals that they'll see again this weekend at home. The men notched wins over both opponents while the women topped Case but lost to Michigan.

Cleveland State will next be in action at the Case Western Duals Nov. 16.
