Moon Township, Pa. – The Northeast Conference (NEC) and Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) have announced that their respective women's basketball and men's hockey postseason tournaments have been cancelled. The NEC has also announced that all spring sports conference play is suspended immediately through at least March 29.

"This is a prudent measure to ensure the health, safety and wellness of NEC student-athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media," said NEC Commissioner Noreen Morris. "We are committed to providing opportunities to compete for our student-athletes, but their health and wellness is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the latest developments on the COVID-19 virus with the well-being of our member institutions and their communities in mind."

"Atlantic Hockey, in a joint decision made by the Commissioner and the Board of Directors, will be cancelling the remainder of the 2020 Atlantic Hockey Tournament, effective immediately," the AHA announced in a press release. "The situation around COVID-19 has been rapidly changing and evolving over the last 24 hours and Atlantic Hockey feels that, for the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and fans, the best decision we can make is to cancel the remainder of the 2020 Atlantic Hockey Tournament. We are disappointed that this decision needed to be made, however, the health and safety of all involved is our top priority."

Per NEC policy, as regular-season champion, Robert Morris will receive the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. The policy states that the highest remaining seed at the conclusion of the most recently completed round will be declared the champion and receive the NCAA automatic qualifier.

Robert Morris University and its department of athletics will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates when they become available.
