Cleveland State Athletics Awarded NCAA AASP Grant

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The NCAA recently announced its annual recipients of the Accelerated Academic Success Program (AASP) Grants, with Cleveland State University being one of 13 NCAA Division I schools to receive aid during the 2022-23 academic year.

The NCAA annually awards more than $1 million in AASP grants to colleges and universities help boost academic programs and initiatives, which tie to graduation and the overall success of its student-athletes. Cleveland State was one of those institutions, receiving a $100,000 AASP grant for the year.

"We are honored to receive support from the NCAA through the AASP grant program and are excited to deploy improvements in our academic spaces as well as our student-athlete development programming," shared Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Garrett. "Thank you to Deputy Athletics Director Kelsie Gory Harkey and our academics staff for spearheading the grant application and moving this important project forward."

Along with Cleveland State, 12 other schools received funding through the AASP Grant; Austin Peay, Cal State-Northridge, Coppin State, Delaware State, Indiana State, Nicholls State, Norfolk State, Southeastern Louisiana, Saint Peter's, Tennessee State, Texas Southern, and UT Martin.

The AASP was established in 2012 by the NCAA Executive Committee, which is now the Board of Governors. AASP schools may request up to $100,000 in single-year grants, to be used toward progress toward the benchmarks in the Division I Academic Performance Program, which ensures a campus environment that supports education and raises the academic success level for student-athletes. A selection committee made up of member school representatives awards the funding each year.
