Viking Sports Weekly (January 6)

Men's Basketball
-The Vikings (6-10, 2-1) will close out their current three-game homestand this week, hosting Detroit Mercy on Thursday, January 9 and Oakland on Saturday, January 11.
-Last time out, Cleveland State picked up its second straight win with an 82-74 victory over Youngstown State, improving to 2-1 in #HLMBB play and marking the best start to the league slate since the 2014-15 season.
-Against the Penguins, the Vikings shot 52.7 percent from the floor and had a season-low eight turnovers.
-Torrey Patton notched career-highs in points (25), rebounds (eight) and assists (six) against YSU, while going 9-for-12 from the field.

Women's Basketball
-Cleveland State (12-3, 2-2) will return home for a single game this weekend, hosting Youngstown State at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10.
-Last time out, the Vikings split their first #HLWBB roadswing of the year, picking up a 73-68 win at Northern Kentucky and dropping a 78-62 contest at Wright State.
-In the win over NKU, Mariah Miller finished with 21 points, marking her league-high seventh 20-point game of the year, and enters the week ranked third nationally with 292 total points this season.

Fencing
-Cleveland State will compete in the Detroit Mercy Invitational this Sunday, January 12.
-The squad will be opening the second half of its schedule after having last competed in mid-November at the Case Western Duals.

Men's Swimming & Diving
-Cleveland State will compete against three schools over three days as it has a busy week to begin the second half of its season.
-The Vikings will host Miami (Ohio) Tuesday, January 7, in the first home dual of the campaign.
-CSU will then head to UIC this weekend for a pair of tri-duals featuring the host Flames and fellow league foe IUPUI.
-CSU was last in action on the weekend before Thanksgiving as the Vikings won their sixth straight Magnus Cup.

Women's Swimming & Diving
-Cleveland State will compete against three schools over three days as it has a busy week to begin the second half of its season.
-The Vikings will host Miami (Ohio) Tuesday, January 7, in the first home dual of the campaign.
-CSU will then head to UIC this weekend for a pair of tri-duals featuring the host Flames and fellow league foe IUPUI.
-CSU was last in action on the weekend before Thanksgiving as the Vikings finished third at the Magnus Cup.

Wrestling
-Cleveland State will compete in a quad dual Friday, January 10 against Clarion, California Baptist and host VMI.
-Evan Cheek placed seventh as the Vikings competed in the prestigious Southern Scuffle this past week.
-Cheek leads the team with 23 wins while sophomore Ben Smith is second with 17 victories on the season.

Indoor Track & Field
-Cleveland State will return to action at the Michigan Invitational on Saturday, January 11, continuing its seven-meet indoor slate.
-The Vikings opened the indoor season at the BG Opener last month, paced by a trio of second place finishes from Azsah Bradley (60M) and Monica Johnson (60MH, 200M).
-This will mark the second meet under first-year head coach Amber Williams who joined the Vikings back in October.

Viking Of The Week
Torrey Patton, Men's Basketball
The junior led the Vikings to an 82-74 victory over Youngstown State last weekend, posting career-highs in points (25), rebounds (eight) and assists (six). Patton was 9-for-12 from the field against the Penguins, including a perfect 2-for-2 effort from behind-the-arc. In league games only, Patton now ranks second with a .632 field goal percentage and third averaging 20.3 points per game.
