A look at what's happening in Cleveland State Athletics...

Men's Soccer
-Cleveland State (7-6-1, 3-4-0) will host Detroit Mercy this Friday, November 8, in its regular-season finale.
-The Vikings took down 2018 national finalist Akron, 3-1, this past week behind a pair of second-half goals by Gabriel Pewu.
-CSU then fell short at league-leading UIC, dropping a 2-1 decision in overtime after having been reduced to 10 men.
-Freshman Omeed Naeemy made 16 saves in the setback, the second-most in a Division I match this season.

Volleyball
-Cleveland State (7-16, 3-9) will split its time at home and on the road this week, hosting Wright State in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, November 6 and traveling to UIC on Sunday, November 10.
-Last time out, the Vikings picked up back-to-back 3-0 sweeps at Youngstown State and Oakland, snapping a six-match losing streak and moving into seventh place in the #HLVB standings.
-Sophomore Christina Grecol combined for 67 assists between the two matches, moving into eighth place in the CSU Career Record Book with 1,952 career assists. Grecol is now one of just nine Vikings all-time to eclipse the 1,900-assist mark.

Women's Soccer
-Cleveland State (6-8-3, 4-4-1) closed the 2019 season with one of its best performances last time out, picking up a 3-2 victory over Wright State in the season finale.
-The Vikings got goals from Grace Krosky, Grace Grant and Essence Canady against WSU, while Krosky finished her rookie campaign with a team-high four goals.
-Junior Elena Gutlove led the Vikings with nine total points on the year, while Stevie Holbrook notched 75 saves in goal.
-Last week, senior Toni Dickson was named to the 2019 Horizon League Women's Soccer All-Academic Team. 

Cross Country
-The Vikings will have a few weeks off from competition, returning to action at the NCAA Regional on Friday, November 15.
-Last time out, Cleveland State finished eighth at the 2019 #HLXC Championship, paced by Anna Brandt who finished 12th individually earning Second Team All-Horizon League honors.

Men's Basketball
-Cleveland State will open the 2019-20 season with a pair of games this week – traveling to Minnesota on Tuesday, November 5 and hosting Edinboro on Saturday, November 9.
-The Vikings will be under the direction of first-year head coach Dennis Gates, who was named the 16th head coach in program history on July 26, 2019.
-Saturday's game against Edinboro will be fan appreciation day, with free admission, free parking and free popcorn. Those fans that wish to attend the game can claim their tickets at bit.ly/CSUTix by using the promo code Gates.

Women's Basketball
-The Vikings will begin the 2019-20 season this week, traveling to Bowling Green for a 6:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, November 6.
-Cleveland State will be under the direction of second-year head coach Chris Kielsmeier, and returns eight letterwinners and four starters from last year. 
-Earlier this season, Mariah Miller and Savanna Crockett were named to the #HLWBB Preseason Second Team, marking just the fourth time that two Vikings have earned preseason honors in the same season.

Wrestling
-Cleveland State will continue action in tournament format this weekend as it heads to the Ohio Intercollegiate Open Sunday, November 10.
-The Vikings opened the season with a pair of comfortable wins this past weekend, knocking off John Carroll (27-14) and Case Western Reserve (51-(-1)) while hosting the Cleveland Clash.
-CSU then took part in the Clarion Open where Evan Cheek won the 141-pound title with four bonus-point wins.
-Cheek was one of five Vikings overall to place among the top four in the event.

Men's Tennis
-Cleveland State senior Nico Mostardi will close out his fall season at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship this week, earning a spot in the 64-player draw by virtue of a Wildcard Qualifier.
-Mostardi enters the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship ranked seventh on the CSU Singles Wins List with 76 career victories, and is the first Viking in program history to earn a spot in the year-end tournament.
-Last time out, Cleveland State hosted the Viking Invitational, with Matthew Terry capturing the singles title and Matthew Terry and Luke Phillips claiming the doubles crown.

Women's Tennis
-The Vikings wrapped up their fall schedule last time out, participating in the UB Fall Invite.
-Klara Mrcela and Lara Prosenjak finished the weekend with a 3-0 doubles record, and finished the fall season with a team-best 7-2 mark.
-Senior Blanche Lenoan picked up a singles win at the UB Fall Invite, ending the weekend with a team-best six singles wins this fall.

Viking Of The Week
Evan Cheek, Wrestling
The redshirt senior began his final collegiate season with a title, as he took first at 141 pounds in his first competition in a CSU singlet since the 2018 NCAA Championships. Cheek posted a technical fall shutout in his first match of the Clarion Open and then got out to a 6-0 lead in his next bout before cruising to an 11-1 major decision. In his semifinal bout against a Big XII foe competing unattached, Cheek notched a pin in the first period. He produced the same result in the championship bout, posting a pin inside of two minutes, after he had already built a 10-0 lead.
