A look at what's happening in Cleveland State Athletics...

Women's Soccer
-Cleveland State (2-1-1) will close out its current four-match roadswing this weekend, traveling to San Antonio, Texas to take on UTSA (Friday, September 6) and Rice (Sunday, September 8).
-Last weekend, the Vikings posted a 1-1-0 record, defeating Miami (Ohio) 1-0, and dropping a 2-1 decision to Ohio in double overtime.
-Elena Gutlove scored Cleveland State's goal at Ohio and assisted on Essence Canady's game-winning goal at Miami (Ohio), and has now registered a point in three consecutive matches.
-Stevie Holbrook made three saves against Miami (Ohio) to earn her second shutout of the season.

Men's Soccer
-Cleveland State (0-0-1) will host Robert Morris in its home opener this Wednesday (September 4) at 7:00 pm.
-The Vikings rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie defending ACC champion Louisville, 2-2, in their season opener this past weekend.
-Sophomore Jannis Schmidt scored his first collegiate goal and then assisted on the tying strike in CSU's rally. 

Volleyball
-Cleveland State (0-3) will continue the 2019 campaign at the Hampton Inn Bowling Green Invitational this weekend, facing Butler and Charlotte on Friday, September 6, and the host Falcons on Saturday, September 7.
-Last time out, the Vikings participated in the Panther Challenge, facing a trio of teams that were ranked or receiving votes in the Top-25 poll in Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Cincinnati.
-Trinniti Hall was named to the Panther Challenge All-Tournament Team, after combining for 33 kills and 11 blocks on the weekend. 

Cross Country
-The Vikings will return to action at the Tommy Evans Invitational this Saturday, September 7, with the women's 5K race slated for an 11:00 a.m. start at the Silver Creek Metro Park Cross Country Trails.
-Last time out, Cleveland State opened the season at the Queen City Invitational, paced by junior Anna Brandt who finished 20th overall with a time of 18:32, while the freshmen duo of Emily Nemeth (19:31) and Hannah Korte (19:41) finished second and third for the Vikings, respectively. 

Men's Golf
-The Vikings will return to action at the Joe Faegans Invitational next Monday and Tuesday (September 9-10), taking part in their second of five fall tournaments.
-Last time out, Cleveland State opened the 2019-20 season at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, as the Vikings finished ninth overall in the team standings with a 54-hole score of 913.
-Junior Zach Robbins fired a 66 on the final day of the tournament, which ties him for the third-best round in Cleveland State history, while he finished the tournament tied for seventh in the field with a 54-hole score of 212 (72-74-66).
-Jules Blakely finished tied for 41st overall after shooting rounds of 77-76-77.

Women's Golf
-Cleveland State began the 2019-20 season at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational hosted by Youngstown State yesterday, and will continue with the second round of action today (September 3).
-Cleveland State fired a team total of 304, which was good for second place after the opening round.
-Junior Madison Butler opened with a one-over par 73 and is tied for third in the medalist standings, while junior Ashley Knight fired a 75 and is in sixth place, and sophomore Grace Zimmerman opened her season by shooting a 77, which has her tied for seventh place. 

Fencing
-Cleveland State hosted the Cornett Open this past weekend.
-The Vikings swept the podium in the mixed foil event, as John Wenger claimed the title.

Viking of the Week
Jannis Schmidt, Men's Soccer
The sophomore factored into both goals as Cleveland State got a 2-2 road result against Louisville - the defending ACC champions - scoring his first collegiate goal to close the gap to 2-1, and then adding the primary assist on the game-tying goal. Schmidt had a team-high three shots for the Vikings against the Cardinals.
