 Cleveland State Women's Cross Country

Meet 7 - Kent State Short Course Classic

Date: Saturday, Oct. 21

Time: 4:00 p.m.

Site: Kent, Ohio

THE STARTING LINE: The Cleveland State women's cross country team competes in the shortest run of the year at the Kent State Short Course on Friday (Oct. 20) at 4:00 p.m. The 3K meet is the Vikings' last event before the Horizon League Championship.

THE LAST TIME OUT: Four Viking runners set personal-bests and freshman Caitlan Ebner led CSU for the sixth consecutive meet as CSU placed 18th at the Falcon Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 14) in Bowling Green, Ohio.  Behind Ebner's time of 20:27, freshman Colleen Conway (20:59), sophomore Madeline Singer (21:34), junior Christina Swierz (21:38) and sophomore Melisa Mazanec (23:08) each clocked career best efforts. Two other Vikings, senior Sherri Douglas (21:34) and sophomore Audrey Piotrowski (22:23), each posted season-best times. Senior Shannon Graves (23:44) rounded out the CSU lineup.

EBNER NOW 6-FOR-6: Caitlan Ebner has been the top runner for CSU in each of its six meets this season. Her season-best time of 20:10 came at the Toledo Invitational on Sept. 9 and her second-best effor came Saturday at the Falcon Invitational. Twice this season - at the Tom Evans Invitational on Sept. 9 and again at the Toledo Invitational on Sept. 16 - she has finished two minutes ahead of any other CSU runner.

EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY SOFTBALL: Christina Swierz has registered her two top runs of the season in the last two events since returning to the lineup after playing with the CSU softball team. Swierz's 21:38 run on Saturday topped her previous personal-best of 22:13 set at the All-Ohio Championship on Oct. 6.

CONWAY DOES IT HER WAY: Colleen Conway has finished in the top three for CSU in each of the last three meets. Conway placed second on the team at the Ohio Invitational (22:42) and the Falcon Invitational (20:59) and was third at the All-Ohio Championship (22:20). Her time at the Falcon Invitational made her the second Viking (Ebner is the other) to run a sub-21:00 5K this season.

JAKETIC ON THE VIKINGS: "Despite some windy conditions, we ran really tough this past week. It was a good effort for us because we had some runners set new standards for themselves while also measuring up against the rest of the Horizon League's teams. We still have a lot of work to do, but we have a better idea of where we stand."

UP NEXT: The Vikings will run at the Horizon League Championship in Indianapolis, Ind. on Saturday, Oct. 28. The women's race wil begin at 12:40 p.m. immediately after the men's race at noon.
