Cleveland State Women's Cross Country

Meet 6 - Falcon Invitational

Date: Saturday, Oct. 14

Time: 10:45 a.m.

Site: Bowling Green, Ohio

THE STARTING LINE: The Cleveland State women's cross country team competes for the sixth time this season when the Vikings head to the Falcon Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 14). The meet, hosted by Bowling Green, begins at 10:45 a.m.

THE LAST TIME OUT: CSU placed 31st of 38 teams at the All-Ohio Championship on Friday (Oct. 6) in Delaware, Ohio. Freshman Caitlan Ebner led the Vikings, clocking in at 21:22, good for 148th out of 264 runners. Junior Christina Swierz was next, posting a season-best time of 22:13. Freshman Colleen Conway (22:20) finished third for the Vikings, followed by senior Sherri Douglas (23:05) and sophomore Madeline Singer (23:24). Sophomores Audrey Piotrowski (23:27) and Melisa Mazanec (24:21) rounded out the CSU lineup. Ohio University was first in the team standings with 63 points, followed by Ohio State (73) and Case Western Reserve (161). Cleveland State totaled 948 points.

AND IN FIRST...IT'S EBNER: Caitlan Ebner has been the top runner for CSU in each of its five meets this season. Her season-best time of 20:10 came at the Toledo Invitational on Sept. 9. Twice this season - at Toledo and again at the Toledo Invitational on Sept. 16 - she has finished two minutes ahead of any other CSU runner. Ebner is the only Viking to finish a race in under 21 minutes, which she accomplished in each of the season's first three meets.

SOFTBALL MAKES HER FASTER: Swierz's season-best run on Friday came in just her third meet of the season and first since Sept. 9. Swierz had previously been unable to run because she was playing with the CSU softball team every weekend. Her previous best was 23:02 in the season-opening Bill Sudeck Invitational on Sept. 2.

WELCOME BACK: Friday's meet marked the return of Audrey Piotrowski, who had missed the team's last three meets because of injury. Piotrwoski, one of the team's best runners last season, hadn't competed since running a 22:48 on Sept. 2 at the Bill Sudeck Invitational.

JAKETIC ON THE VIKINGS: "I am so proud of the way our team has competed this season. Our runners have shown heart and toughness every week. Despite being shorthanded at times and battling various injuries, we are running well right now and are ready to run our best this week."

UP NEXT: The Vikings will run their shortest race of the year at the Kent State Short Course meet on Friday, Oct. 20. The 3K run is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
