Cleveland State Women's Cross Country - IDLE THIS WEEK

THE STARTING LINE: The Cleveland State women's cross country team is idle this week after finishing fifth of six teams at the Ohio Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 23) in Athens, Ohio. The Vikings are back in action on Friday, Oct. 6 at the All-Ohio Invitational in Delaware, Ohio. The meet is slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
VIKINGS RUN TO FIFTH PLACE IN ATHENS: CSU finished fifth of six teams at the Ohio Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 23) Freshman Caitlan Ebner was the top finisher for the Vikings, placing 15th overall with a time of 21:09. Freshman Colleen Conway placed 34th overall, clocking in at 22:42. Sophomore Madeline Singer (23:07), senior Sherri Douglas (23:21) and senior Shannon Graves (24:02) finished 3-4-5 for the CSU, respectively. Sophomore Melisa Mazanec rounded out the lineup with a time of 25:51.
FRESHMAN LEADER: Caitlan Ebner has been the top runner for CSU in each of its four meets this season. Her season-best time of 20:10 came at the Toledo Invitational on Sept. 9. Ebner is the only Viking to finish a race in under 21 minutes, which she has done three times this season.
CONWAY'S BEST EFFORT: Colleen Conway's 22:42 on Saturday at the Ohio Invitational was her best time of the season. The effort placed her second behind Ebner in the CSU lineup, which is also her best finish of the season. Conway's previous best (23:03) came at the Toledo Invitational on Sept. 16.
MISSING IN ACTION: The Vikings have been short-handed in each of their four meets this season. In the season opener on Sept. 2, CSU was without Shannon Graves and for the past three meets sophomores Audrey and Julie Piotrowski have been unable to run due to injuries. In addition, junior Christina Swierz has not run in the last two meets because she has been playing on the CSU softball team.
JAKETIC ON THE VIKINGS: "Despite some injuries and running in some adverse conditions, our runners have stayed tough and competed in every race. Our freshmen have been consistently at the top of our lineup and we have been improving every week."
UP NEXT: The Vikings will compete at the All-Ohio Championship in Delaware, Ohio on Friday, Oct. 6. The meet, CSU's fifth of seven in the regular season, will begin at 2:00 p.m.
