Meet 2

Tom Evans Invitational

Date: September 9, 2006

Time: 12:15 p.m.

Site: Akron, Ohio

THE STARTING LINE: The Cleveland State women's cross country team will compete in the Tom Evans Invitational in Akron on Saturday (Sept. 9). The meet, CSU's second of the season, is schedule for a 12:15 p.m. start. The University of Akron is the host school.

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY: The Vikings battled through adverse weather conditions to finish 11th at the Bill Sudeck Invitational in Cleveland Heights on Saturday (Sept. 2). Freshan Caitlin Ebner, competing in her first collegiate cross country meet, clocked a team-best 20:42. Her run was good for 38th place among 157 runners. Sophomore Julie Piotrowski finished second among CSU runners, clocking in at 21:04. Senior Sherri Douglas was next for the Vikings with a 22:16. Junior Madeline Singer and sophomore Audrey Piotrowski posted times of 22:34 and 22:48, respectively. Junior Christina Swierz rounded out the Vikings' lineup with a time of 23:02. CSU was without senior Shannon Graves, who was out with an injury. Edinboro won the 14-team race and host school Case Western finished second.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Not only are sophomores Julie and Audrey Piotrowski identical twins, they each cause opposing teams trouble. Julie finished second among CSU runners at the Sudeck Invitational with a time of 21:04, while Audrey was fourth with a 22:48. Both sisters finished among the Vikings' top three in every race they both ran in last year. In order to tell them apart, remember "Julie" is a shorter name than "Audrey," and Julie has shorter hair than Audrey.

SINGER IN THE RAIN: Despite the wet course, sophomore Madeline Singer's time of 22:34 on Saturday was the third best 5K run of her Viking career. Singer's career-best run came at the Horizon League Championship last October, when she recorded a 22:07 time. Singer's second best time (22:09) came at the Falcon Invitational at Bowling Green last year.

JAKETIC ON THE VIKINGS: "We are definitely going to impove as the season goes on. I thought we ran pretty well for our first meet, but we know we can do better. We have made the right adjustments and I think we will be very much improved this week in Akron."

UP NEXT: The Vikings travel to Toledo to race in the Toledo Invitational next Saturday (Sept. 16). The meet starts at 9:45 a.m.
