CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Cleveland State cross country team placed 23rd of 39 teams at the 30th Annual All-Ohio Championship on Friday afternoon at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course hosted by Cedarville.

The 23rd place finish at the All-Ohio event represented the best finish in program history, besting the old mark of 29th place set in 2008.

It marked the second time this season that the Vikings ran the course after competing at the Cedarville Friendship Invitational on Sept. 18. Six of the seven runners either bettered or equaled their times today from that event.

"We had a great day to run and the team really took advantage of it," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "To have three runners under 20 minutes for the second straight week goes to show just how hard everyone has been preparing during the week. I have been putting the team through some tough workouts during the week and they are responding with great times at the events.

"Everyone is really happy with where we are at as a team and we are going to continue to work hard as we gear toward the league championship at the end of the month."

Junior Allison Craine led the Vikings, placing 75th in 19:03, while junior Brittany Elmlinger was 97th in 19:17 to give CSU two runners in the top-100.

Junior Kari Haywood finished 149th in 19:56, while Kelly Zaleski ran a 20:12 to finish 167th and Andria Bazilevich was 180th in 20:26.

CSU will be back in action next Friday (Oct. 8) when the Vikings compete at the Shawnee State Invitational beginning at 4:45 p.m.
