The CSU women's cross country team ran one of its best meets in recent memory on Saturday (Sept. 9), finishing fourth of five at the Tom Evans Invitational in Akron, Ohio. Freshman Caitlan Ebner was the top runner for the Vikings, clocking in at 20:32 over the 5K course. She has finished first for CSU in both the team's meets this season.

"Caitlan came out really fast today," head coach Joe Jaketic. "At the first mile mark, she was up there with the leaders. She has been great so far this season."

Ebner's run was good for 12th overall.

Sophomore Madeline Singer finished second for the Vikings and 27th overall with a time of 22:41, and senior Sherri Douglas was next in line at 22:57. Junior Christina Swierz finished just a few seconds behind Douglas with a time of 23:03.

Freshman Colleen Conway, running in her first collegiate match for CSU, clocked in at 23:37 and senior Shannon Graves rounded out the Viking lineup with a time of 24:07.

"The course was a very tough one today," Jaketic said. "Everyone stepped up and ran extremely well."

Sophomore twins Audrey and Julie Piotrowski did not compete because of injuries.

"We are still improving. Once we get everyone at full strength, we're going to be really competitive," Jaketic said.

The Vikings' next meet is next Saturday (Sept. 16) at the Toledo Invitational. The meet's starting time as now yet been determined.
