Cross Country Competes At #HLXC Championship

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Cleveland State cross country team continued the 2019 season Saturday, competing at the Horizon League Championship. The Vikings finished eighth as a team, while junior Anna Brandt finished 12th individually to lead Cleveland State.

Brandt posted a career-best time of 21:08 at the #HLXC Championship, finishing 12th overall to earn Second Team All-Horizon League Honors. This marked the third straight year that Brandt has earned all-league accolades, becoming the only Viking to achieve the feat.

The next five Viking finishers also notched career-best times on Saturday, including freshman Hannah Korte who finished 42nd overall in a time of 22:23. Olivia Hammons and Heather McArdle were the next Vikings to cross the finish line, Hammons in a time of 22:53 and McArdle in a time of 23:23.

The freshmen duo of Zoe Lexovsky and Haley Rozeski were the next Cleveland State runners to cross the finish line, as Lexovsky posted a season-best 6K time of 23:40 and Rozeski recorded a time of 23:59 to also mark a season-best.

Also competing for the Vikings at the Horizon League Championship were Lily Michael (24:21), Deanna Swinerton (24:24), Abbey Rojeck (24:38) and Jessica Byler (24:38). Rojeck's time marked a personal-best for the junior, as she was the seventh Viking to record a career-best time.

The Vikings will now have two weeks off before closing out the 2019 campaign at the NCAA Regional on Friday, November 15.
