Vikings Post Strong Showing At Queen City Invitational

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Cleveland State cross country team opened the 2019 season Saturday morning, competing in the Queen City Invitational.

"Overall I thought this was a good showing for our first race of the season, I was happy with how we ran up front, we just need to work on moving this pack up in the overall standings," head coach Jason Hudson said. "This was a good race to get the first race jitters out of the way, and hopefully it will help us continue to move forward in practice over the next week, so that when we hit the course again we will be able continue improving individually and as a team."

The Vikings were paced by junior Anna Brandt who placed 20th overall with a 5K time of 18:32, marking the eighth sub 19-minute 5K of her Cleveland State career.

The freshmen duo of Emily Nemeth and Hannah Korte were the next two Vikings to cross the finish line at the Queen City Invitational, both recording sub 20-minute 5K times in their collegiate debuts. Nemeth recorded a lifetime best after crossing the finish line in 19:31, while Korte recorded a 5K time of 19:41.

Lily Michael was the next Viking to cross the finish line, posting a time of 20:25, while Haley Rozeski (20:25) and Zoe Lexovsky (20:27) made their collegiate debuts at the Queen City Invitational finishing fifth and sixth for the Vikings, respectively.

Next to cross the finish line for the Vikings were Olivia Hammons (20:36), Grace Holmes (20:43) and Heather McArdle (21:25), while Jessica Byler (21:35) and Abbey Rojeck (21:49) also competed for Cleveland State.
