Cross Country Opens 2019 Campaign At Queen City Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team will begin the 2019 season this weekend, taking part in the Queen City Invitational hosted by Northern Kentucky. Saturday's 5K race is slated for a 9:45 a.m. start at the Valhalla Course.

2019 Cleveland State Cross Country Roster
The Vikings, who are under the direction of second year head coach Jason Hudson, return nine letterwinners from last season's squad, including Horizon League First Team honoree Anna Brandt. This core group will be joined by four true freshmen, giving Hudson a well-rounded squad for the upcoming 2019 campaign.

Cleveland State All-Time Top Performances
Entering the 2019 season two Vikings rank in the top-25 on the CSU 5K and 6K Performance Lists, as Anna Brandt and Jessica Byler (Finley) both own multiple top times. Brandt, who set program records on the 5K (17:55) and 6K (21:43) courses last season, owns five top-10 5K and 6K times, while Byler owns four top-25 5K and 6K marks.

Saturday's race will mark the first of six races for the Vikings this season, and the first of three races that will be run on 5K courses (Queen City Invitational, Tommy Evans Invitational, Disney Cross Country Classic).

2019 #HLXC Championship
Saturday's Queen City Invitational will help prepare the Vikings for the 2019 Horizon League Championship later this season, as the #HLXC meet will also take place at the Valhalla Course. The 2019 league championship, which will take place on Saturday, November 2, will mark the first time that Northern Kentucky has hosted the league meet.
