NORTON, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team returned to action at the All-Ohio Championship Saturday, placing 11th out of 38 teams in their first 6K race of the season.
"Overall, I thought the team ran really well today, especially considering we were missing a few people due to injuries," head coach Jason Hudson said. "This was a great next step as we move closer to the Horizon League Championship in about a month. The team executed our race plan pretty well today, which we are focused on more so than the final times. We did a good job of competing in a large field and I'm excited to continue to see them improve over the next month."
Anna Brandt paced the Vikings with a ninth place individual finish, crossing the finish line in a CSU program record time of 21:56. Brandt's 6K time was 14 seconds faster than the previous record, which was set by Karen Barrientos in 2016.
Jessica Finley and Olivia Hammons were the next finishers for the Vikings, Finley placing 64th overall in a time of 23:12 and Hammons placing 74th in a time of 23:23.
Running in her first collegiate 6K, Lily Michael was able to post a top-100 finish for the Vikings, placing 97th overall in a time of 23:44.
Kylie Scott was able to better her career mark on the 6K course Saturday, crossing the finish line in a time of 23:54 – three seconds faster than her previous career-best 6K time.
Heather McArdle (24:36), Abbey Rojeck (25:27) and Graicen Riley (25:37) also competed for the Vikings.
Cleveland State will be back in action in mid-October, returning to the cross country course at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic in Wilmington, Ohio.
