INDIVIDUAL RESULTS | TEAM RESULTS
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Cleveland State cross country team opened the 2018 campaign Saturday morning, competing at the Duquesne Duals for the their first of six races this season.
"I'm very happy with how the team performed today," head coach Jason Hudson said. "Through the first few weeks of practice our focus has been running in packs, and we executed that fairly well today on a very hilly course. Anna picked up right where she left off last year, running a very good race today and finishing strong down the stretch. I am very excited for the rest of the season, as we still have work to do and room to grow."
The Vikings, who had three top-20 finishers, were led by sophomore Anna Brandt who placed second overall with a time of 18:30. Brandt's time marked the third sub 19-minute 5K of her career, and was just shy of her career-best.
Jessica Finley and Lily Michael recorded the other top-20 finishes for Cleveland State, as Finley placed 14th overall with a time of 19:28 and Michael finished 18th with a time of 19:38 in her first collegiate race.

Olivia Hammons and Grace Holmes rounded out the top-five Viking finishers, Hammons crossing the finish line in 20:07 and Holmes finishing her first collegiate race in a time of 20:13.
Cleveland State had two other runners finish in the top-40 then, as Kylie Scott finishing 32nd overall with a time of 20:25 and Abbey Rojeck finished 38th in 20:49.
Also competing for the Vikings were Graicen Riley (21:14), Samantha Meyer (21:30), Kenzie Baker (21:31), and Heather McArdle (21:42).
The Vikings will be back in action next Saturday (September 8), as they make the short trip south to Norton, Ohio for the Tommy Evans Invitational. The women's race is slated for an 11:00 a.m. start at the Silver Creek Metro Park Cross Country Trails.
