Vikings Head To Florida For Disney Cross Country Classic

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team will continue one of its most successful seasons in recent history this weekend, traveling south to the state of Florida for the Disney Cross Country Classic. The women's 5K is slated for an 8:25 a.m. start at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.

For those fans that won't be making the trip to Florida for this weekend's 5K, you will still be able to follow along live, with a live video stream available. Fans can access the video stream via the link above or the cross country schedule page on CSUVikings.com.

The Field
Cleveland State will be part of a 29-team field at the Disney Cross Country Classic, joining three other teams from the state of Ohio – Cuyahoga Community College, Tiffin and Youngstown State.

Disney Cross Country Classic History
This will be the third time that Cleveland State will be making the trip to Florida for the Disney Cross Country Classic, also making the trip during the 2012 and 2015 seasons. The Vikings were also scheduled to participate last year, but due to poor weather conditions the trip was cancelled.

Back To The 5K Course
After running in back-to-back 6K races the last two weeks, Cleveland State will return to the 5K course this weekend in Florida. Through the first three 5K races of the season, the Vikings are averaging a 5K time of 20:44, nearly 50 seconds faster than the last five seasons.

Anna Brandt Among #HLXC Rookies
Cleveland State freshman Anna Brandt continues to be tops in the freshman class among all Horizon League teams, as she owns the top 5K (18:27) and 6K (22:20) marks among all rookies. Brandt has been one of Cleveland State's top-two finishers in all five races so far this season, including a season-best fourth place overall finish at the Friendship Invitational. 

Rewriting The CSU Top Performances List
Through the first part of the 2017 season, the Vikings have been continually rewriting the CSU Top Performances List, as four Vikings have recorded 14 top-50 5K times and six Vikings have recorded 11 top-50 6K times. Freshman Anna Brandt owns the best 5K time of the season – 18:27 – while Karen Barrientos' 6K time of 22:14 marked a season-best for the Vikings. Both times rank second on their respective CSU Top Performances Lists.
