Barrientos Named #HLXC Runner Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After leading the Cleveland State cross country team to their first team title under head coach Joe Jaketic, senior Karen Barrientos has been named the Horizon League Cross Country Runner of the Week. This marks the first weekly honor for Barrientos, and the first weekly accolade for the Vikings since the 2015 season.

Last time out, Barrientos placed sixth overall at the LHU Invitational with a 6K time of 22:14, pacing five Cleveland State runners that recorded top-25 finishes. Barrientos' time of 22:14 marked the second fastest 6K under Jaketic, and was just four seconds shy of tying her career-best 6K mark.

Through four races this season, Barrientos has been one of Cleveland State's top-three finishers during every race, including team-best finishes at the LHU Invitational and Friendship Invitational.

Next up for Barrientos and the Vikings will be the All-Ohio Championship this Friday (September 29), with the women's 6K race slated for a 2:45 p.m. start in Cedarville, Ohio.
