Vikings Place Eighth At Horizon League Championship

KENOSHA, Wis. – Behind a trio of top-40 finishes, the Cleveland State cross country team had a strong showing at the 2016 Horizon League Championship Saturday morning, as the Vikings placed eighth as a team.

Cleveland State's top finisher was junior Karen Barrientos, who placed fifth overall with a career-best time of 22:10. Barrientos, who notched Cleveland State's highest individual finish at the Horizon League Championship, set a program record with her 6K time of 22:10.

Samantha Butterbaugh was the second Viking to cross the finish line, placing 31st overall with a time of 23:32. Ashlyn Woods and Olivia Hammons were the next Vikings to finish, Woods placing 39th overall in a 6K time of 23:49 and Hammons placing 52nd with a time of 24:58.

Jessica Finley was the next Viking to cross the finish line, placing 54th overall with a time of 25:05. Alanna Shamrock (25:17) and Emily Marshall (26:31) also competed for Cleveland State.

Cleveland State will now have a week off from competition, returning to action on Friday, November 11 at the NCAA Regional.
