Cross Country Set For Horizon League Championship

CLEVELAND, Ohio – After a week off from competition, the Cleveland State cross country team will return to action this weekend, participating in the 2016 Horizon League Championship. This year's championship meet will be hosted by Milwaukee, and will take place at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. The women's 6K race is slated for a 12:00 p.m. EST start on Saturday, October 29.

The Field
Cleveland State is part of a 10-team field for the Horizon League Championship, and will be starting in Box 4 on Saturday. A complete list of team box assignments is below:

Top 6K Times
Entering the Horizon League Championship, the Vikings have recorded eight top-50 6K times this season, including three that fall in the top-10. The trio of Karen Barrientos, Ashlyn Woods, and Samantha Butterbaugh have all recorded two top-50 6K times, while Olivia Hammons and Jessica Finley have each posted one time that ranks among the top-50 at Cleveland State since the 2005 season.

Best Championship Finish Under Jaketic
Cleveland State's best Horizon League Championship finish under head coach Joe Jaketic came during the 2011 season, when the Vikings finished fourth as a team. Cleveland State posted four top-40 finishes at the 5K championship, paced by Allison Craine (2007-11) who finished 16th individually.

Woods Trying For Second All-League Honor
Senior Ashlyn Woods will be trying to earn All-Horizon League honors for the second time in her career this weekend, needing a top-14 finish on Saturday to achieve the feat. Woods, who became the first Viking to earn all-league accolades as a sophomore (2014), has been Cleveland State's second finisher during all seven races so far this season.
