Mel Badziong enters her fifth season as part of the Cleveland State coaching staff during the 2016 season, returning to her alma mater as an assistant coach. Badziong’s primary responsibilities include recruiting and working with the slate of summer camps.

Since joining the CSU coaching staff in 2012, Badziong has helped continue the Vikings’ success on the court, leading Cleveland State to a pair of Horizon League Regular Season and Tournament titles during the 2012 and 2015 seasons. Since Badziong joined the staff four years ago, the Vikings have tallied two 20-win seasons and have accumulated 13 All-Horizon League honors – including Dayna Roberts (2012) and Gina Kilner (2014) who both earned accolades for their setting performances.

Prior to returning to CSU, Badziong served as the head coach of the Cleveland Volleyball Company for four years, leading the club to an Open National Championship during 2011. Under Badziong’s direction the club also had a top-10 national finish and two top-five finishes.

Badziong also spent time as the assistant varsity volleyball coach and head JV coach at Amherst Steele High School.

As a four-year letterwinner at Cleveland State, Badziong (Snyder) finished her career ranked third all-time with 4,076 career assists and fifth with 130 service aces. She was named to the All-Horizon League First Team twice (2006 & 2007) and picked up AVCA All-Region First Team honors following her senior season. During Badziong’s career, the Vikings posted an overall record of 76-41 and captured the program’s first-ever Horizon League Championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament during 2007.

Badziong and her husband Joe, who was a former CSU swimmer, have a six-year old son Tyler, and a soon-to-be three-year old daughter Zoe. The family resides in North Olmsted, Ohio.
