CLEVELAND STATE PDF MATCH NOTES | #HLVB CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

QUICK SETS
For the first time in four years the Cleveland State volleyball team has earned a spot in the Horizon League Tournament field, and will begin play as the No. 4 seed with a first round contest against fifth-seeded Milwaukee on Friday, November 18. The two teams will be battling for a place in the semifinals on Saturday, November 19, with the #HLVB championship match slated for Sunday, November 20.

ENTERING THE TOURNAMENT…
The Vikings own a 13-16 overall record, and posted a 10-8 mark in Horizon League regular season contests…Cleveland State has won four straight and seven of its last 10 matches…The Vikings enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed and will begin play in the opening round. 

CSU IN THE HORIZON LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
This will mark the 20th appearance in the #HLVB Tournament for the Vikings under head coach Chuck Voss, and their first since the 2018 campaign. Under Voss, the Vikings have advanced to the championship match of the Horizon League Tournament nine times (2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017) claiming the title during the 2007, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 seasons. Cleveland State has advanced to the semifinals of the #HLVB Tournament 14 times, and owns an overall record of 20-14 in Horizon League Championship action.

FOUR VIKINGS EARN ALL-LEAGUE HONORS
The Vikings were well represented in this year's postseason honors from the Horizon League, as Laken Voss, Lydia Latimer, Karly Klaer, and Madison Olinger all earned all-league accolades. Voss was named the #HLVB Freshman of the Year in addition to earning a spot on the All-League Second Team and All-Freshman Team, while Latimer joined her in picking up Second Team accolades, and Klaer and Olinger joined her on the All-Freshman Team.

…TRIO NAMED TO #HLVB ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Earlier this week, the Cleveland State trio of Sarah DeGeorge, Lydia Latimer and Audrey McConihe were named to the #HLVB All-Academic Team, marking the third straight year that at least two Vikings have earned All-Academic recognition. DeGeorge owns a 3.97 GPA in communication science disorders, while Latimer has posted a 3.95 GPA in health sciences pre-physical therapy and McConihe owns a 3.98 GPA in moderate/intensive special education.

McCONIHE EARNS SPOT IN CSU CAREER RECORD BOOK
After finishing the regular season with a team-best 379 total digs, senior Audrey McConihe enters the #HLVB Tournament ranked 10th in the CSU Career Record Book with 1,160 digs on her career. McConihe, who recorded her 1,000th career dig against Wright State earlier this year, is the first person to earn a spot in the top-10 since Emily DeGeorge (2017-20). Entering Friday's first round matchup against Milwaukee, McConihe ranks ninth among league players averaging 3.35 digs per set this year.

VOSS CLOSING IN ON FRESHMAN KILLS RECORD
Entering Horizon League Tournament play, Laken Voss is closing in on setting the CSU Freshman kills record, needing just 14 more kills to set the mark. Voss, who has tallied a team-best 359 kills through regular season play, would take over a mark that was set by Liz Fazio back in 2006 (372 kills). Voss is one of four #HLVB players with 350+ kills on the year, and currently ranks fourth averaging 3.39 kills per set. Through 28 matches played as a freshman, Voss has tallied 10+ kills 24 times, including a trio of 20-kill performances.

VIKING BLOCK PARTY
Cleveland State enters #HLVB Tournament play as one of the best blocking teams in the Horizon League, averaging 2.49 blocks per set. The Vikings have posted 10.0+ team blocks in 14 matches this season, including three of the last four times out. Individually, Lydia Latimer leads the Vikings with 116 blocks on the year, while Madison Olinger has tallied 114. Both Latimer and Olinger rank in the top-five among #HLVB players, Latimer averaging 1.17 blocks per set and Olinger averaging 1.13.

KLAER WITH THE DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Through regular season play, freshman Karly Klaer has tallied a team-best 15 double-doubles, entering #HLVB Tournament play averaging 8.08 assists and 2.62 digs per set. Klaer, who has been Cleveland State's primary setter for the majority of the season, ranks fourth among league players with 800 total assists on the year. In addition, Klaer has also combined for 127 kills and 53 total blocks on the season, and has been close to recording a triple-double multiple times.

DeGEORGE FROM THE SERVICE LINE
So far this season, senior Sarah DeGeorge has been Cleveland State's strongest server, entering the weekend with 37 service aces on the year. DeGeorge, who ranks eighth among #HLVB players with her 37 aces, has tallied multiple aces in eight matches, including a season-best six aces against Morgan State during non-league play.

HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 23rd season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 392-278 (.585) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 17 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight from 2009 to 2018. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark eight times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles five times (2007, 2012, 2015, 2016 & 2017) under his guidance. During the 2016 season Voss became the all-time winningest coach in program history, and then later became the only active Horizon League coach to reach the 350-win mark at their current school.
