Cleveland State Volleyball Picks Up 3-0 Victory At Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Cleveland State volleyball team returned to action Saturday afternoon, picking up a 3-0 victory at Oakland.

Laken Voss led the Viking offense with 15 kills on the match, while Lydia Latimer added nine.

Karly Klaer finished with 28 assists, helping the Vikings to a .248 hitting percentage.

Emma Walker tallied a team-best 18 digs, while Laken Voss added 14, Sarah DeGeorge recorded 11 and Klaer chipped in 10.

Madison Olinger and Latimer led Cleveland State with five total blocks each against Oakland.

During the opening set, the Vikings were able to gain a late lead to pull out the 25-21 victory. After a back-and-forth start to the frame, Cleveland State was finally able to take control of the set with a pair of kills from Karly Klaer and Lydia Latimer, before closing out the frame with a Laken Voss kill.

Cleveland State was then able to carry its momentum into the second set, as the Vikings jumped out to an 8-2 lead on a Klaer and Latimer block, forcing Oakland into an early timeout. Although the Grizzlies were able to stop the CSU scoring run out of the timeout, the Vikings responded with two points of their own to extend their lead to 10-3.

Midway through the frame the Vikings were able to extend their lead once again, as three straight points – including a Madison Olinger kill and a Torres and Olinger block – put Cleveland State up 15-7. Cleveland State then went on to control play throughout the remainder of the set, earning the 25-14 win following an Oakland error and Latimer kill.

The two teams then played a tightly contested third and final set, with Cleveland State coming out on top of a 27-25 decision. After trading leads throughout the frame, the Vikings were able to earn their third set point on an Oakland error, before closing out the match with a Latimer and Olinger block.
